Gathering Drum and more

I’m looking for activity suggestions for children birth-3 years of age using the gathering drum. My students have varying degrees of abilities. Some have low muscle tone and aren’t able to move their bodies easily. Some have speech difficulty. Anyone else out there working in Early Intervention using music as a therapy strategy? We had a very successful year last year with our optional music class and our Ukulele Lending Library. Would love to connect with others working with similar students and families.

Back to School Music

Many Music Box teachers are preparing for their return to school. I thought I would highlight a few places to look on Music Box for some review or something new for your school year.  Hopefully this will also help new members find their way around Music Box. Check out these places from your Music Box home page once you log in. Please feel free to add to the discussions!

(Remember there are several pages to the Forum and Blog, see bottom for page numbers to see more!)

What’s the #1 Instrument for Young Kids?

What’s the #1 Instrument for Young Kids?

Making up verses, making up movement, decisions on form, working with others — these are just a few of the things we see in the music room that come from a creative Orff approach. “Catching” them with ideas and showing them that you value their input directly affects our music making.

This video gives an example of a song that inspires young children to easily create new verses, movement and work on pitch matching too!

What’s the #1 instrument for young kids? You might guess the Gathering Drum… but listen to the end for the answer!

Leprechaun Adventures and a Look at Matilda

Leprechaun Adventures and a Look at Matilda

Here’s a lucky list for all of you! Spring and St. Patrick’s Day ideas! Of course, hiding brings excitement and anticipation that kids love, and a few of these type of adventures are included.

A Spring and Irish Music Super Pack is in the Music Rhapsody Shop, but…

All of these are FREE to Members and are featured this week in Music Box to make it easy to find.

And to celebrate our new Jungle Beat Concert Plan, here’s some little music makers singing another hit, our beloved Matilda.

Watch Matilda here.

5 Little Monkeys and One Month Left to Save Big!

5 Little Monkeys and One Month Left to Save Big!

It’s not just a song! “Five Little Monkeys” has drama, emotion, adventure, suspense, and joy! In this clip, watch and listen to our young ones pretend to be monkeys as they go for a walk, spread out their blankets, climb a tree, sneak around, and more. This is another hit from the Jungle Beat Book and Concert Plan.

Be sure to keep watching all the way until the end (at 4:49) to see some “monkey business” with our kids! Dealing with the monkey rejection of a high five is hard to take… especially for us teachers! HA!
