One of our members asked for a story with music using percussion and it reminded me of our “Don’t Wake Up Mama” since Mother’s Day is coming up! Great for sound effects, I have added an easy song, so much fun for preschool – grade 2. Since we have had some glitches with Music Box ever since our updates and upgrades, especially with mobile, I don’t want to risk anyone having trouble getting this so it is FREE to ALL in this newsletter. A great little script is included if you’d like to do this for a concert.

Get your own copy of the book. Click the picture below to get the book!

Also, to put a smile on our faces (I need this when we’re having website/download issues, and the techies are working overtime!), check out our preschool concert with the unrehearsed hugs and kisses! Oh my, they could hardly do their songs and motions with so much attraction for each other! Haha!

Lots of Worms (What child doesn’t want to be asked to wiggle!) and My Dog Rags (And now they get to bark like dogs!) are hits from the beloved collection, Farm Songs and the Sounds of Moo-sic. (CD only is available for students.)

As always members, thanks so much for your support! Great things ahead!

Did you get caught up in all the fanfare with April the Giraffe? I know I did! A member’s request for a giraffe song (Thanks Edel!) led me to share this delightful poem that can be chanted or sung. Of course, we have to run like a giraffe to find a new instrument! Check out the free activity and song with some great photos to share with your young music makers. This one will certainly put you in a good mood… an animal that loves to run, eat, and skip all naps! Children LOVE giraffes!

Music Camp or Concert; Adding art work to a Garden Theme

Music Camp or Concert; Adding art work to a Garden Theme

Preschool or Kindergarten Music Camp gives extra time for art work. Or classroom teachers may enjoy having their students decorate for their spring or summer concert. The pictures below show how a few classrooms turned their room into a garden for our delightful theme!

The painting was a three step process with the base coat one solid color. The second step was adding another color by splattering or lightly sponging another color of paint. A third step included a choice of assorted tools to add a very unique and intriguing pattern and texture and additional paint if desired. The tools included small sponges, string, mini rakes, a plastic knife and fork, a tooth brush and a plastic weaving mat.

The garden songs that brought great excitement to the children and inspired the decorating are “All Around the Gardener’s Bench,”  “Who’s that Hatching”, “I Plant a Little Seed” and “Lots of Worms“ and Here’s a Baby Birdie.

This picture shows how the children included everything for the story told in the song “The Gardener’s Bench” from Farm Songs and the Sounds of Moo-sic. Notice the gardener pouring the water, the rain from the cloud, the sun, and the flowers of many colors. On the left side, the “critters” were placed for opportunity to eat what’s in the garden. Music Box Members: Check out the video of the performance!

Video of All Around the Gardener’s Bench

The variety of birds were inspired from “Here’s a Baby Birdie” from Farm Songs and the Sounds of Moo-sic. Music Box Members, check out the preschoolers singing the story in Music Box Videos.  “Who’s that hatching” from In All Kinds of Weather Kids Make Music,  also hatched the ideas of some bugs that hatch.  And way under the ground, you will see ”Lots of Worms”!  (a big hit from “Farm Songs and the Sounds of Moo-sic.” )

Music and Movement for Toddlers

Music and Movement is a critical part of a complete early childhood education. In fact, learning things like counting, colors, concepts such as high and low, long and short, loud and soft, in and out, and about the world around us is just more fun and more successful through music and movement. This is why I love to have books in themes for preschool music. I hope to encourage the classroom teacher to incorporate music in their units (ocean, farm, weather, mountains, rain forest, etc) If you are leading music and movement activities with babies, toddlers and preschoolers, notice that in this activity, the melody and movement matches the lyrics. (“Jump up high, swam down low…” etc.) This fosters language development as well as singing, timing and coordination. At some point or several points in the lesson, I want the teacher to stop singing before the last word of a phrase to encourage the participation of the toddler. For example “One little, two little, three little ________.” Check out this video of Ten Fish in the Sea with the Toddlers!
